NEW DELHI, August 25 2026: Gold prices stayed very high across India on Tuesday. This keeps gold prices at the center of attention for investors, jewellers and shoppers as the festive season gets closer. Even though gold prices dropped a little bit during the day gold prices are still trading near their highest levels ever because of global interest and worries about the economy.
In Delhi 24-carat gold was ₹16,390 per gram or roughly ₹1.64 lakh per 10 grams. On the hand 22-carat gold was around ₹15,025 per gram. Please remember that gold prices change from city to city or between jewellers because of local taxes and making charges.
Gold Takes a Breather
Even though gold is still expensive gold prices went down a tiny bit on August 25 after a big jump recently. International spot gold fell by 0.6% to $4,624.87 per ounce after hitting a three-month high earlier that day. Experts think people are selling gold to take their profits and the US dollar is getting stronger.
This small drop does not change the picture for the market. People still want to buy gold. Many people still see gold as a place to put money when the world feels uncertain.
Recent numbers show how fast local prices have gone up. In Delhi the 24-carat rate went from about ₹15,942 per gram on August 20 to about ₹16,390 on August 25 with the small drop on Tuesday.
Why Are Gold Prices High?
A few things are keeping gold prices high around the world. Investors are watching US money rules, inflation and the US dollar closely. What people think about interest rates matters a lot for gold because gold does not pay you interest like a bank account does.
Trouble in the world is another reason. Tension in the Middle East makes people want to buy things that feel safe when things are unstable. Gold is a way to hold onto value so gold becomes very popular when people lose trust in the financial markets.
More people are also buying gold through funds. According to Reuters gold-backed ETFs saw a lot of money coming in week with about 46.7 metric tonnes worth $6.4 billion moving in. This was the jump in ten months.
What It Means for Buyers
For families in India these high gold prices are a bit of a mix. People who already own gold might be happy because their gold is worth more now.. For people who want to buy new jewellery the cost is much higher.
The timing is tricky because the festive and wedding seasons in India always mean a lot of people want to buy jewellery. In Ahmedabad gold has reportedly hit around ₹1.7 lakh per 10 grams. This makes some jewellers worry that if gold prices stay this high people might stop buying much.
If you are buying jewellery do not forget that the gold rate you see is not the price. You still have to pay making charges GST and other costs which can make your final bill much higher.
Outlook
Where gold prices go next depends on US interest rates the US dollar, inflation and world news. Even though we saw a drop on Tuesday the demand for gold is still very high.
For now the gold market, in India is stuck in a high-price zone. Everyone is watching to see if gold prices will keep going up or if people will start selling to lock in their profits.
