External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is going to make a two-day trip to Russia on August 23 and 24 2026. He will co-chair the session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation. This is called the IRIGC-TEC. The visit happens as New Delhi and Moscow work to grow their long-lasting strategic relationship in many areas.
The visit is happening because of an invitation from Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. He will be co-chairing the commission with S. Jaishankar. This high-level meeting will look at what’s already happening in the relationship and find ways to make it stronger.
Trade and economic cooperation are a part of the meeting. India and Russia have had a lot of business together for a time. They have talked about increasing trade improving access to markets and solving problems that businesses face.
The commission is a way for officials from both countries to look at how they’re working together and find new areas for partnership. They might talk about investment, industry, transportation and other important parts of the economy.
India and Russia have always had economic and strategic relations. Both sides keep talking to each other when the world changes around them. The Ministry of External Affairs says Russia is a partner that India has trusted for a time.
Science and technology are also on the list of things to discuss. The IRIGC-TEC deals with collaboration in science, technology and innovation. This gives a chance for universities and companies in both countries to work together.
The meeting will look at how to make science and technology collaboration. Building stronger science links is becoming more important as India works on technology and research.
The commission also includes cooperation. So the meeting is not about trade. The agenda shows how India and Russia have a relationship that goes beyond just government talks. It includes business, science and culture.
S. Jaishankar will also meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his visit. Their conversation will talk about regions and the world. The Ministry of External Affairs says this is about sharing views on topics.
This meeting is happening when the world is changing in ways. India talks to Russia. Also to other big countries. The meeting between S. Jaishankar and Sergey Lavrov will give both sides a chance to share their thoughts on events and interests.
The visit in August 23 to 24 is important because it continues the high-level talks between India and Russia. S. Jaishankar was in Russia in August 2025. He co-chaired the session of the same commission then.
The new visit shows that the two countries use ways like the IRIGC-TEC to help their relationship grow. Trade, economy, science, technology and big global issues will all be part of the talks. S. Jaishankars visit to Moscow is important for seeing how India and Russia plan to strengthen their partnership, in the future.
