A 16-year-old boy allegedly killed his father at their rented accommodation in Noida before dying by suicide at Sector 52 Metro station hours later, police said on Friday. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, came to light in two separate stages, with the teenager’s death at the metro station reported first and his father’s body discovered more than a day later.
According to preliminary police findings, the teenager had been living with his father, Raju Sharma, a tutor, in a rented accommodation in Garhi Chaukhandi village for around three months. Police said the boy was reportedly struggling with depression linked to his father’s alleged harsh behaviour and the absence of his mother, who had been living separately from the family.
Father’s Body Found Later
Police said the teenager allegedly killed his father early Wednesday morning while he was asleep. After the incident, the boy left the rented accommodation and travelled to Sector 52 Metro station.
The teenager’s death at the metro station was reported to the Sector 49 police station through Dial-112. Metro staff and security personnel responded to the incident and rushed the boy to a nearby hospital. Doctors subsequently declared him dead.
At that stage, police had not yet discovered that the teenager’s father had allegedly been killed at their rented residence. The boy was later identified as a resident of Sector 73 in Noida. His body was sent for post-mortem following inquest proceedings.
Brother’s Search Leads Police to House
The discovery of Raju Sharma’s body came later on Thursday night.
Police said Raju’s brother, Arun, had become concerned after being unable to locate him. He approached police outposts at Parthala and Garhi Chaukhandi seeking help in finding his brother and his rented accommodation.
During the search, police received information about a foul smell coming from a room near Tikona Park in Garhi Chaukhandi. Officers reached the premises along with Arun and found Raju’s body inside the rented room.
The body was subsequently sent for post-mortem after completion of the required legal procedures. The discovery led investigators to connect the two incidents and begin examining the teenager’s movements and circumstances before his death.
Police Probe Family Circumstances
Investigators are now examining what led to the alleged killing and the teenager’s subsequent death. Police have cited the boy’s alleged depression over his father’s behaviour and his mother’s absence as part of the preliminary investigation, but the circumstances are still being examined.
Police said the teenager’s mother had separated from Raju after the COVID-19 pandemic and had been living separately. Investigators are expected to examine family circumstances, statements from relatives and other available evidence as they reconstruct the events of Wednesday.
Authorities have not indicated that the teenager left behind a note explaining his actions. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are continuing to establish the sequence of events surrounding both deaths.
The incident has brought renewed attention to the importance of recognising severe emotional distress among young people, particularly when family conflict and isolation are involved. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
