Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to choose Swadeshi (indigenous) products in the upcoming festive season. During his 126th installment of the monthly radio address “Mann Ki Baat,” PM Modi highlighted that by opting for indigenous goods, not only does it contribute to national pride but also empowering youth entrepreneurs and artisans throughout India.
Empowering Young Entrepreneurs
PM Modi pointed out that buying Swadeshi products directly empowers young entrepreneurs. He said, “When we buy things produced by the citizens of the country, we respect the toil of a craftsperson and give wings to a young entrepreneur’s dreams.” This initiative is in line with the vision of the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), which focuses on increasing domestic industries and generating employment opportunities.
GST Bachat Utsav: Towards Savings
The Prime Minister also referred to the current “GST Bachat Utsav,” a campaign which is an effort to make people save while they shop for festivals. He appealed to citizens to avail themselves of this facility by pledging to purchase only Swadeshi items, thus giving meaning to their celebrations and helping the country grow economically.
Countrywide Support for Swadeshi Movement
Nationwide, several regions have adopted the call for Indian-made Swadeshi products. In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took a “Swadeshi Pledge” in Jagdishpur, urging villagers to adopt Indian-made, environment-friendly products during festivals such as Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali. In the same vein in Indore, garment manufacturers and traders have committed to selling only Indian-made garments, backed by the Indore Retail Garments Association and the Readymade Textile Dealers Association
Encouraging Local Creativity
PM Modi also appreciated efforts that encourage local artistry. He lauded Ashish Satyavrat Sahu’s “Johargram” as an effort that brought forth and encouraged Jharkhand’s tribal weaving culture, bringing tribal craftmen into the mainstream market and showcasing their cultural heritage
PM Modi’s appeal to buy Swadeshi products this festive season is a move towards making India’s economic fibre stronger and empowering its youth. By opting for locally-manufactured products, citizens can help create a self-reliant India, respect the toil of artisans, and nurture the aspirations of young entrepreneurs.
