CredFlow Secures RBI NBFC Licence: A Major Boost for SME Lending
Fintech SaaS startup CredFlow has taken a major leap in India’s lending ecosystem after receiving a non-deposit taking NBFC licence (ICC Type 2) from the Reserve Bank of India. The licence has been granted to its group entity Cashpositive Finance, which now operates as CashFloat and has already begun lending independently.
This approval, obtained in just four months, allows CredFlow to move beyond its earlier partner-dependent lending structure and unlock the ability to lend directly to small and mid-sized enterprises. The company calls this the foundation of India’s first data-native NBFC, built on deep integrations with GST systems, banking data, ERP networks and supply-chain intelligence.
Faster Loans, Better Control, and Smarter Credit Decisions
Before the NBFC approval, CredFlow operated through lending partners and loan service providers. While this model worked, it had natural limitations–slow approvals, inconsistent underwriting standards and limited flexibility.
With the new licence, CredFlow now holds complete control over every step of the lending process, from application to underwriting to collections.
What This Means for SMEs
- Faster loan approvals
- Custom-designed credit products
- Program-based underwriting
- Real-time monitoring of borrower performance
- End-to-end oversight by a single entity
This level of control is expected to significantly speed up loan disbursements for SMEs, particularly those dealing with seasonal or fluctuating working capital cycles.
Deep Data Network Built Over Four Years
CredFlow has been quietly building one of India’s most powerful cashflow intelligence platforms for the MSME market. Over the past four years, the company has developed a vast data network that tracks more than 800 billion dollars in GST-verified invoice flows and covers more than six million businesses across the country.
This proprietary dataset allows CredFlow to evaluate businesses with far greater accuracy than traditional lenders. Instead of relying on collateral or outdated financial statements, the company assesses SME performance using real-time business activity.
Why This Matters
SMEs often struggle not because they lack orders or demand, but because they cannot access timely capital. Slow loan processes, heavy paperwork and collateral requirements have long made traditional lending a barrier for small businesses. CredFlow’s data-first approach aims to break these bottlenecks.
New Product Suite to Fuel SME Growth
With the ability to lend from its own balance sheet, CredFlow is expanding its loan offerings to support a wider variety of SME needs. The company is on track to achieve Rs 100 crore in assets under management this year and plans to use the new licence to accelerate growth.
The Expanded Lending Portfolio Includes:
- Purchase invoice discounting
- Unsecured and partially secured term loans
- Manufacturing expansion loans
- Structured SME finance products
- Bank guarantee-backed financing
- Co-lending programmes with top banks and NBFCs
These products target the most common pain points for India’s growing manufacturing, trading and service sectors.
A Mission to Make Every SME Cash-Rich
Kunal Aggarwal, founder and CEO of CredFlow, emphasized that the NBFC licence is a crucial step toward solving the working capital gap for small businesses.
He explained that SMEs rarely struggle due to lack of demand. Instead, they struggle when capital does not reach them on time. By blending structured lending with data intelligence, CredFlow aims to make liquidity more predictable and accessible for millions of business owners.
Aggarwal said the company is focused on building a future where SMEs can operate without constant stress about delayed payments or stalled cashflows, which in turn strengthens India’s manufacturing networks and supply chains.
A Smart Mix of Offline Presence and Digital Underwriting
CredFlow operates on a hybrid model: strong offline reach combined with a powerful digital underwriting engine.
The Data Used in its Credit Assessment Includes:
- GST return data
- Banking transaction histories
- Credit bureau reports
- ERP-based business activity
- Anchor network performance
- Invoice-level insights
Its AI-led automation engine monitors business activity continuously and adjusts credit limits in real time. This means loan decisions are closely tied to cashflow performance rather than static paperwork.
For SMEs with fluctuating cycles, this dynamic lending model is far better suited than rigid traditional systems.
SaaS Tools That Offer Daily Cashflow Visibility
Alongside lending, CredFlow also provides software tools designed to help businesses understand and manage their finances.
Features of CredFlow’s Cashflow Management Suite
- Receivables dashboards
- Automated payment reminders
- Invoice validation
- Discount negotiation tools
- Cashflow projection models
These tools give CredFlow a unique advantage: real-time visibility into a customer’s daily business activity. This data feeds back into its underwriting engine, enhancing accuracy and reducing risk on both sides.
This dual model—software plus lending—positions CredFlow as a full-stack SME financial platform.
Strategic Growth: Funding and Acquisitions
CredFlow’s momentum has been supported by strategic investments and acquisitions.
In November of last year, the company raised Rs 31.2 crore in a pre-Series B round led by Inflexor Ventures and a Singapore-based family office. The funding was directed toward strengthening its technology stack and scaling new financial products.
Earlier, in 2023, CredFlow acquired Y Combinator-backed TechBiz in an all-cash deal to deepen its software capabilities for SMEs. This acquisition strengthened its product suite in ERP and receivables management.
Building India’s Next Big SME Finance Ecosystem
With the NBFC arm now active, CredFlow is preparing to build a full-stack financial ecosystem for small and mid-sized businesses.
The Roadmap Includes:
- Working capital loans
- Automated collections
- Business payments infrastructure
- Supply-chain financing
- AI-led underwriting
- Capital-market access through IPO-linked products
The company’s long-term goal is to transform the way SMEs access credit, manage cashflow and grow sustainably.
By integrating lending with deep data intelligence and software-led financial tools, CredFlow is positioning itself as a new-age financial backbone for India’s growing business sector.
Final Outlook
The RBI NBFC licence marks a turning point not only for CredFlow but also for the broader SME lending landscape. By combining data, technology and direct lending capabilities, the startup aims to shorten loan cycles, eliminate friction and empower millions of businesses that drive India’s economic engine.
If CredFlow succeeds, India may soon witness a new era of fast, transparent and intelligent SME financing built on real-world business data rather than traditional paperwork.
